Ever seen this man? Didn't think so. His name is Edward Bernays, nephew of Sigmund Freud. Why is he on my blog today? Well, he just wasn't just any man, THIS man was the first to attempt to manipulate public opinion using the subconscious. Let me explain that: he would use different psychological techniques to get you to buy things by appealing to the side of you that DESIRES things instead of actually NEEDING them. Bernays was a master of deception. He worked in the field of PR (Public Relations) and one of Bernays' favorite techniques for manipulating public opinion was the indirect use of "third party authorities" to plead his clients' causes. He said:
"If you can influence the leaders, either with or without their conscious cooperation, you automatically influence the group which they sway"
It's clear from just that ONE STATEMENT alone that this man's theories and practices border-lined on the conventional means of MIND CONTROL. Take apart his statement: If you can influence the leaders (political leaders, celebrities, well-known individuals) with or WITHOUT their CONSCIOUS COOPERATION, you can AUTOMATICALLY influence WHATEVER GROUP THEY ARE IN CHARGE OVER. For example: if I want to sell a new product that is made for women of any color, age, culture, and financial background who would I need to influence? I would go to a well-known ICON in the eyes of women all around the world. Now, you ask WHO COULD FIT THE ROLE FOR THAT IN THIS DAY AND AGE? Oprah. I would have gone to her, and either got her cooperation willingly or would have made it worth her while to help me promote my product. Some could argue that there's nothing wrong with that...OK...read his next statement and say that:
"The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. ...We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society. ...In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons...who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind."
Whoa whoa whoaaa. "IT IS THEY [the relatively small number of persons] who pull the wires which to control the public mind." So yall can honestly sit there and tell me that yall are fine with having your emotions and desires CLEARLY manipulated in order to fund big business consumerism? If you can say that then stop reading now and exit this tab. This man could be looked at as a genius, 'the father or public relations', or someone that was truly on to something. But you want to know what the sad thing is? This information doesn't need to be hidden or covered up. It's free and easily accessible to the public but because we are all too caught up in STUFF we'll never take this seriously. All we want to focus on is how we will better OURSELVES by any means necessary. That, right there, is ridiculous.
